Snowy Owl How do they Hunt?

Snowy owls can rotate there heads by up to 270 degrees which as you can imagine is quite a feat! Snowy owls are quite versatile - they can often go for animals already trapped and this is quite a common hunting method they use. They use their beaks and talons to kill their food.

Food can be either swallowed hole or broken up by chewing.

How does mating go?

Well, the male is a real gentleman, and will bow to the female as part of the ritual! He will fly around a bit. He'll also move his feathers and spread his wings wide - he may even drag the wings along the ground.

With food being such an important part of life, he will also kill prey and give the food to the female to win her affections.

How many eggs do they lay?

Well a lot depends on food supply - if it's short, there might be no eggs that year.

A Clutch (of eggs) can range from 3 to as many as 14 eggs if food supply is good. They eggs are laid every two days. The male brings food and guards the nest as the female lays the eggs. It takes over thirty days for the eggs to hatch. After 25 days, the young will leave the nest.

The parents are very protective of the young and can attack aggressively.
